Paralegal
Hailey Hurst is a Spokane native who grew up on the South Hill. She graduated with honors from Ferris High School, class of 2010. She graduated with 1 year of college classes under belt from attending Spokane Community College part time her senior year. She has always been very driven when it comes to academics and the law.
She then attended Washington State University where her love for criminal justice flourished. She graduated Cum Laude in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice & psychology with a minor in political science.
In 2013 Hailey was able to participate in a class entitled the Prison Debate Project in her senior year at WSU. She and her classmates went to Coyote Ridge Correctional Center to participate in a debate project where half of each debate team was made up of WSU students, and the other half was made up of Coyote Ridge students. She also attended a national convention with one of her professors, the 2013’s American Society of Criminology in Atlanta, Georgia, where they presented on Juvenile Justice research. These experiences solidified Hailey’s drive to help change the world through the criminal justice system.
Hailey then moved on to San Jose State University in the fall of 2014 for her Masters in Justice Studies. During this time, she worked with the Prison Education Project helping Santa Clara County inmates. She created curriculums around topics the inmates suggested; most of them wanted to learn more about psychology which was fun for Hailey to incorporate her Bachelor work into her Grad work. Hailey also volunteered with a non-profit, California Prison Focus, in Oakland, California. Here she edited their newspaper which is distributed to all inmates in Solitary Confinement in California. Grad school is where Hailey found a passion for ending solitary confinement and reforming the criminal justice system.
After grad school Hailey moved back to Spokane to start her career. She was able to get a starting clerk position at Spokane County District court in March of 2018. This job changed Hailey’s life. She quickly became one of the most sought-after clerks for help from private attorneys, public defenders and prosecutors alike. Hailey met some of her best friends at the county, and she also met her Fiancé while working there. The County holds a special place in Hailey’s heart.
After 3 long years putting in her time at the County, Hailey moved onto private practice. She was hired as a legal assistant at Maurer Law in March of 2021. She quickly moved her way up to Lead Paralegal and ran the office while also working the Personal Injury cases.
Hailey met Steve Clark while working for the County in 2018. She quickly realized he was someone she very much wanted to work with and learn from. She continued to watch his career explode and he finally was able to hire her in April 2023.
In her time away from Clark Law, Hailey enjoys spending time with her Fiancé, either at their home in Pullman or their family cabin on Spirit Lake. Hailey loves to read, and craft with her Fiancé. This year Hailey learned how to knit and he learned how to Crotchet. Her Fiancé is in his second year of Law School at University of Idaho and they hope to move back to Spokane after he graduates to continue their law careers.
